Wesgar is proud to announce it has attained a certificate of recognition (COR) for Occupational Health and Safety awarded through the Occupational Safety Standard of Excellence (OSSE) Protecting Workers, BC Manufacturing Safety Standard and certified by WorkSafeBC and Manufacturing Safety Alliance (MFSA) of BC.
“Achieving this recognition is an important milestone for Wesgar,” says Nash Kassam, CEO and President of Wesgar. “As Wesgar continues to experience a growth spurt that positions us at the forefront of the industry with innovative, leading-edge technology and manufacturing excellence, we remain committed to developing a safety culture for our employees, recognizing that technological advances and safety go hand-in-hand.”
The mechanism to achieve occupational health and safety recognition is stringent. Shortly after Wesgar’s application, MFSA conducted a GAP analysis using its audit tool. The outcome of the audit precipitated Wesgar ensuring its processes and systems met the high standards required by MFSA. then in the fall of 2022, an MFSA auditor returned and examined Wesgar’s health and safety program based on documentation, staff interviews, and on-site observations before awarding a certificate of recognition for OSSE.
“In support of our commitment, Wesgar has developed a half-day onboarding health and safety training program for all employees. And to ensure full comprehension, we have translated this training into multiple languages to cover team members from more than 28 ethnicities employed at Wesgar,” says Michael Wong, Health and Safety Administrator. “Additionally, we have implemented a continual improvement program with staff member safety champions paired up with new employees to ensure health and safety is top of mind for everyone at Wesgar.”
